One of the more recent tragedies of cinema is the rise of wokeness and the injection of personal current day politics into these supposed works of art. More often than not, there is an anxiety that creeps over me before watching a television series or film. This is mainly because of the now obligatory not-so-sublte demonisation of people with a certain political persuasion one way or the other. Part of the enjoyment of film is the anticipation and excitement of being taken into worlds that are not quite like our own yet share similar elements. Where topics are helmed skillfully with the directors ploting the course with the stars in mind mindful of not only avoiding icebergs but ferrying all safely to the preferred destination.
Taking cue from what has now become a societal norm, many actors, directors and those involved in film & television production have chosen to air out the personal, often despicable views about others, during the marketing run of whatever production they are promoting. This makes for uncomfortable viewing because many are confronted by the faces of those who hate them simply for their beliefs.Current day directors steer titanic big budget vessels with the delicate touch of a raftsman caught up in tsunami. Films aren't a voyage anymore. They have become more of a survival run where only a few make it off the life rafts. I find myself incessantly flipping back and forth trying to choose shows to watch because I have become more and more disinterested in pollution that is marketed as art or entertainment.
Rather than bemoan the lack of good content I have chosen to whittle down my consumpion to just the bare necessisities. I'm even tempted to re-explore the jungle that is my bookshelf from childhood and re-read the classics that gave me an apprecation for character buidling and story telling.
