Vantage Point With Keli
Hey,
My name is Keli, and yes its a tribal name. It means second. No deep cultural roots. Born and raised in a third world country, moved away to South Africa for almost a decade and now looking onward to the next thing. No longer in South Africa. I love video games, films, music and occasionally comment on culture and politics. I also write.
I use this page as a blog of sort. Find musings here, current content I'm consuming and creating plus a few bonuses.

So Why Do I Write About America Even Though I'm Not American?

"I lived in South Africa for nearly a decade and in light of the recent bout of rioting it would seem appropriate for me to offer some coverage of the issues facing that country. After all, I may be able to offer unique insight into the situation at hand. Sadly however, I cannot. While the recent looting and rioting was worse than usual it wasn’t an event that would bring about South Africa’s downfall as a nation. Most of South Africa is relatively stable and even in light of recent events, it seems to me that more than 90% of the country was and is fine. Some seem to forget that South Africa isn’t a tiny island nation. It’s a vast country that runs from one edge of the African continent to the other. This is not to be ignorant of the fact that there has been a lot of damage done and there will be lingering effects in the communities affected. This being said, South Africa is not a failed state and it will definitely endure for much longer. Relatively speaking, other countries have it much worse and still seem to be doing just fine. Often, people forget that most news is a concentration of a particular problem blown up. Western norms of what democracy and stability are are not necessarily reflective of what others in other parts of the world would consider to be norms. Ignorance of realities on the ground often leads to misinformed and misguided notions about non-western countries amongst many."-Keli.

Art For Today

Took my camera along for my morning run.

Some shaky cam as I had my head on a swivel. Didn’t want to get jumped. Wasn’t entirely fruitless as I did get some cool shots. This being said, better to head out earlier when wildlife is closer to the fence. I wouldn’t risk it though.

Assassins In Thine Own Shadow

Thoughts on goings on at Ubisoft, from my latest piece:

"The stunt at the game’s launch of reportedly hiring lawyers to track down mean comments online directed to developers reeked of infantility. Then there’s the nearly two hour long credits at the end of the game. These are more akin to a rap sheet detailing the companies numerous crimes, artistic and otherwise. Self-submitted evidence of a development process and team that were overly bloated. Unforced and costly errors. Assassins Creed Shadows is a game on the cusp of greatness hobbled by questionable narrative choices and negative sentiment garnered during the game’s marketing run."-Keli.

A New Wakanda

Latest piece is out:
"Seemingly, an attempt to inseminate young minds with poisonous ideas about race where people of black ethnicity are always and will forever be victims. Forever victims robbed of greatness by racist others. Always at the cusp of total domination but cheated out of victory at various junctures in time. Utterly helpless to save themselves yet secretly harbouring tremendous potential. Always in need of western liberals to elevate them and “their truth” to never attained before heights. Such is the double edged nature of Afro-centrism."-Keli

On The Unbearable Weight Of Insanity On The Inter-webs.

I think I must be losing my mind. The sheer nonsense that is populating YouTube recommendations of late is off the charts. I keep getting recommendations from pretend-communists about how the death of capitalism is nigh. To my chagrin, I have ventured to read some of the comments to these videos and it's a whole choir of chorusing wannabe socialists celebrating the purported death of capitalism.

Rather than point out the obvious, that capitalism is scapegoated for the ills of man, it is instead blamed for the ills of man. Yes, it is true that big corporations prioritise share price and profits over anything else. This isn't the fault of capitalism, simply the evil of man in full display. Why would we then pivot to the proven poison pill of communism as a remedy to heart problems.

I feel the need to write about this but frankly it will be more for catharsis for my soul rather than a genuine desire to inform. It's not that I'm better informed, simply that I don't care to dabble in madness. Something awry is afoot. Very similar to the numerous anti-Tesla/anti-Musk videos propagating all over YouTube.

Quick Thoughts On Trump Musk Feud

In Captain America: Civil War Tony & Cap are at logger heads. In the film, the directors highlight that Tony has valid points but is idealistic in his views. Cap, who's weathered many storms has a realistic take on things and is willing to go outside the law. While Tony wants "good things" they are unachievable. Cap on the other hand wants to do what's right all the while staying true to who he is. Cap is not trying to just do or look good. He is good.

Even after multiple viewings, it is clear that Cap was right, or at least that's what the directors intended the audience to take away. Stripped of everything he still held on firm to his beliefs and to his friends even when they contradicted the existing laws.

In my view, Trump is Cap. Mr. Musk is not Tony but rather him and the entirety of the tech bros are Tony. No true moral centre or any particular beliefs serving as their foundation other than the pursuit of knowledge. Trump on the other hand is grounded by his beliefs: In his country, in his mission and the people he leads.

Darkness Rising

I follow the non woke left on X and every now and again they retweet something from Dave Chappell or some comedian they happen to agree with(usually if they touch on the Gaza Strip). It’s often the said comedian/personality etc giving President Trump advice on how best to govern and what to do differently next time round. Their soliloquies often completely dismiss Trump as a leader and more importantly as a person. He’s just an object to be lectured at and to fulfil their wishes and desires. They clearly despise him. They undersell or understate his achievements and still believe in every other hoax.

I’m not an American but even I can feel bitterness encroaching on the edges of my heart. Like shadows creeping up along the edge of a forest before consuming it whole. Bitterness at the arrogance of said commentators/personalities. Bitterness at their wilful ignorance. Bitterness at them for attempting to rob Trump of his humanity. Sometimes I'm tempted to unfollow these accounts but I'm reminded that it gives me a perspective I don't have on many shared issues.
